About the Lymphatic System
Lymph fluid runs through our bodies in vessels similar to blood vessels, but the lymph does not have the heart to circulate it, the system depends on our physical movement to act as a pump. Exercise is critical for lymphatic health. Deep diaphragmatic breathing also stimulate lymphatic flow. Cells within the lymph fluid circulate through the system, pick up cellular waste and bacteria and deliver it to the lymph nodes to be destroyed, this is why they swell up when we are fighting a bug. The lymphatic system also plays a key role in fluid balance and absorption of fat and nutrients. Massage mechanically increases the circulation of lymph fluid which in turn promotes drainage of excess fluid and waste. Myofascial release reduces pressure on the vessels and increases circulation of blood and lymph fluid.
